Tiberion was born as the first son of a decently successful High Elf merchant, who raised Tiberion and his brother Haradriel in the Elven-quarter in Marienburg. Where Haradriel was a compliant and studious child, Tiberion was a deviant and bolsterous little elf, with a tendency of sneaking out of the mansion and getting himself in trouble by stealing stuff from other merchants’ shops or throwing buckets of manure from the rooftops upon unwitting pedestrians. Their father always punished little Tiberion for his bad manners and un-elvish behavior, but the punishment was not enough to stop the impish boy from hanging out with his human and elvish friends.
As Tiberion grew older his devious manners grew more subtle. He followed in his fathers footsteps, along with his brother, and became a merchant. However, his ways of shipping goods varied a lot from his brothers. While Haradriel was a much better at business relations and talking to people from the higher regions of society, Tiberion was ace at haggling, bribing customs and defrauding other peoples merchandise.
Until one day, he met a fair elven princess, while he and his brother were on audience with her husband. Now you must understand it is unheard of
a sin even for an elf to break the sacred bonds of marriage. But that’s exactly what happened. Gazes were exchanged. Gazes that spoke in words unheard, but words of forbidden affection. That very night, Tiberion of Marienburg sneaked past the guards into the gardens of the royal palace and witnessed from the shadows the elven princess caressing a gentle harp near the waterfront. He moved from shadow to shadow as a black cloth being carried away with the wind, just so he could be closer to her. It was only when he stood in the cool darkness of the willow right beside her that she noticed him. She was startled at first, but love overcame fear and they spend the night talking and kissing, because elfs are not totally weirded out by obsessed stalkers who think that shit is romantic.
Their romance lasted a couple of weeks, until the prince found out about it when he walked into the bedroom and saw the two lovers and understandingly in fury called out eternal revenge and immediate execution on Tiberion. Tiberion did what his first instinct told him to do and hastily jumped out of the window (from which he had entered in the first place) and ran, chased by guards with halberds and pointy swords, through the streets dressed in nothing but a pair of pants. He jumped over walls, dodged elven pedestrians and climbed onto low rooftops, all while holding the rim of his pants in order to prevent it from sliding off his butt. At the docks, he quickly hid himself in the secret contraband hold of his brothers ship. This was not a smart thing to do, for even a stealthy elf like Tiberion draws attention to himself when running across town barely clothed. The guards, who were unable to find the secret access to the cargo hold, torched the ship to the immense grieve of Haradriel.
Tiberion ran from the hold as soon as he noticed the smoke, jumped out of a cannon hole and swam to the relative safety of the rocky shore. He fled Ulthuan with stolen clothes and a false name and though it saddened his heart with the deepest kind of sorrow, he swore never to return to the Island of Elves again.
